The Reverse-Chronological Standard
The reverse-chronological format is universally preferred by hiring managers and ATS screeners alike. List your most recent position first, followed by previous roles in descending order.
Anatomy of a Perfect Work Experience Entry
- Job Title: Use industry-standard job titles that clearly match target roles.
- Company Name & Location: Include company name, city, and state/country (or "Remote").
- Dates of Employment: Include month and year (e.g., "Jan 2023 – Present").
- Bullet Points: Aim for 3 to 6 high-impact bullets per role, each beginning with a strong action verb and ending with measurable results.
Example: Before & After Improvement
Before (Weak): "Worked on software updates and fixed customer bugs."
After (Strong): "Refactored core authentication services in React & Node.js, eliminating 45+ critical security vulnerabilities and reducing latency by 32%."
